One Thousand Percent

A Promise: The Lord earnestly waits to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him. For His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship! Isaiah 30:18 (ampc)

What would you change if you believed that verse to be true?

I like to look up scriptures in different versions is to get other perspectives. I chose this amplified version of that verse in Isaiah because the definition of the simple word struck me, wait – “who expect, and look and long for Him.” It’s easy to read, “Blessed are those who wait for Him,” and insert my version of waiting into that sentence, which usually entails pacing the floor, checking my watch, and frantically reminding God (and anyone in earshot) how long I’ve been waiting.

It’s easy for me to say that I believe God’s Word, but what percentage of truth do I assign scripture when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of life? We all know that earthly limitations give something as absolute as 100%. But our God is not bound by these earthly, temporal limitations! We could say that God’s word is 1000% accurate.

So, if we believe the word of God is true, so true in fact that we actually believe the words we read are “alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword,” and those words can “penetrate even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12-13), then are we living like we believe it?

If victory, favor, love, peace, joy, and undivided, matchless and unbroken companionship were all waiting for you as a provision, as a 1000% money-back guarantee, what would you change in your life? How would you approach people? How would you look at life’s problems? I have to say, 1000% is a pretty good reason to turn my life upside down.

I would love you to post on the comments or shoot me an email at shawnmccarthy@seacoast.org.

We will get through this together!
In His service and at yours!

While serving as the Weekend Experience Pastor at Seacoast Church, I felt God prompting me to share the moments when He would speak His truth into my life through scripture in a way that made sense to me, giving me tangible ways to learn, grow and lead. These promptings turned into weekly emails that I would send my small groups and volunteer teams. I found myself enjoying the process of digging deeper into God’s Word, being stretched by the writing process, and encouraging others in the faith. My lovely wife, Anna, challenged me to begin this blog, so these moments that I have come to call, my “Red-Letter Moments,” can find a home. My prayer is that you will find hope, comfort, and inspiration here, and above all, you will come to know that the God of the universe loves you and desires a personal relationship with you.”

  1. Timely message Pastor Shawn. I’ve often heard people say “that was then this is now” when referring to bible passages. Yes, in itself that’s quite true, BUT, listen and look carefully, we can translate so much of what’s written into our present day lives. I am comforted to know that “if I do wait patiently” He will appear. I trust that 1,000%. I’m not sitting on my hands and waiting, but I’m employing all that He has lent to us and know He is already here and we are waiting patiently to meet with him later, eternally. Hugs
